Dr. Abby Earliwine is the founder and owner of Coastal Sound Audiology, an independent practice built on gold-standard, evidence-based hearing healthcare. She firmly believes hearing healthcare should never be “one-size-fits-all.” Every patient has unique listening needs, communication goals and lifestyle demands. For this reason, Dr. Earliwine does not limit care to a single manufacturer or product line. She believes providers should be knowledgeable across all major hearing technology platforms to serve patients objectively, ethically and with clinical precision.

Dr. Earliwine’s clinical philosophy emphasizes:

  • Comprehensive diagnostic evaluations, including speech-in-noise and loudness tolerance testing
  • Best-practice fittings using Real-Ear Verification
  • Complete tinnitus evaluations, including pitch matching, loudness matching and residual inhibition
  • Multi-manufacturer prescriptive amplification options
  • Individualized treatment plans guided by measurable outcomes

Having relocated to coastal North Carolina while supporting her boyfriend’s service in the United States Coast Guard, Dr. Earliwine understands the unique demands military families face and values providing accessible, compassionate care. Outside of audiology, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, trying different coffee shops, going to the beach and exploring local restaurants.

Research / Dissertation “English Vowel Perception in Multi-Talker Babble and Speech-Shaped Noise,” Doctoral Research Dissertation, 2023.

Dr. Earliwine’s doctoral research examined how English vowels are perceived under challenging listening conditions, specifically in multi-talker babble and speech-shaped noise. The study explored the acoustic and perceptual factors that influence speech understanding in realistic, noisy environments—conditions that closely mirror the difficulties many individuals with hearing loss experience in daily life.
